The latest introduction by Hyundai is an eye candy. The Grand i10 has been launched on September 03, 2013 with a claim that the vehicle is built on a different platform. Interestingly, Hyundai has declared that the latest launch will not replace the current i10.

This B-segment hatchback is an out and out 'Made for India' model designed with an aim to be launched in other markets soon. The company has come up with some dramatic changes in the model to suit tastes of Indian consumers. One of the most significant of all is a longer wheelbase to liberate more passenger space. Special emphasis has been laid on rear seat comfort.

From design perspective, the Grand i10 is a looker. The front has a large hexagonal grille which is the central point of the new-fangled design. The sides at the bottom of the doors have been equipped with a thick black chic plastic moulding. This is precisely what differentiates it from the i10. However, it is the back where the Grand i10 design grabs all the attention. The striking wraparound tail-lamps that extend deep into the boot lid grab eyeballs. The feature imparts rear a stylistic touch. A new C pillar and larger rear doors make the exterior design interesting. The chrome grille is almost positioned to perfection and complements the looks and projects a dynamic presence. The mirror on the exterior are aerodynamically sculpted and embellished with LED turn indicator for enhanced looks and safety. Other significant design feature include stylish black integrated roof rail, chrome door handles, tail lamps assuring high visibility, integrated rear spoiler for better aerodynamics and rear profile aesthetics, fog lamps for enhanced safety, waistline molding, alloy wheels, rear wiper, micro roof antenna for seamless connectivity, and rear bumper reflector.

Hyundai has given special emphasis on assuring a feature rich interior to its consumers. The cabin is comfortable and spacious. The feature-packed car responds to the highest expectation anyone would have from a vehicle designed in Germany. The sporty appeal of the car certainly comes from its eye-catching colour, textures and shape. The cabin of the Grand i10 includes a few elements on the dashboard that seem familiar to other Hyundai models such as the air-conditioner knobs and the centre sack hexagonal top half. The steering wheel is nice to hold. The stitched leather trim and steering mounted controls for the audio system and cruise control feel nice. The colour theme of the cabin (two-tone) is impressive. The gear shift stick located just beneath the centre stack enhances reach and ease of use for drivers. All in all, the cabin feels great, sturdy, and user-friendly. The seats are of premier quality and comfortable. The low noise levels will certainly impress any car lover. The credit goes to NVH packaging (noise, vibration and harshness). Another major highlight of car is its super efficient air-conditioning. Other impressive cabin features include smart key, auto-closing door mirrors, push-button to start and stop, and Bluetooth with the music system.

The engine has been designed keeping in mind the expectations of value-conscious consumers. The 1.1 U2 diesel engine is highly advanced and affordable. The 2nd generation CRDi technology guarantees enhanced operating pressure and low compression ratio. Enhanced atomization of fuel facilitates brilliant performance and more efficiency with lower running costs. The 3-cylinder 1,120cc second-gen 1.1 U2 diesel engine generates a peak power of 71bhp at 4,000 rpm. Drivers can expect a peak torque of about 160Nm from 1,500 rpm to 2,750 rpm. The effivient gearing and the clutch enhances overall engine performance. The peak power is delivered at 4,000 rpm and the redline in the diesel set at about 4,800 rpm. All in all, the engine is a real highway cruiser.

The ride quality of Grand i10’s is a perfect harmony of stiff and pliant. It has been designed with an aim to adapt well to urban and semi-urban roads of Indian cities. The car rolls and pitches less under sudden direction changes. It feels quite confident under braking.

All in all, the all new Grand i10 is a nice upgrade for Hyundai fans. The new car buyers can try it out. It is a smart buy at Rs 4.3 lakh to Rs 6.5 lakh range (ex-showroom, Delhi). The car ensures better value as compared to many other competitors in the segment.
