The do's and don't's of car ownership
OWNING
Its straightforward. If you look after your car you reap the rewards when you need to sell it.
Don't put your own stamp on your car. People are suspicious of non-standrad features like fat exhaust pipes, spoilers and non-standard alloy wheels when they are buying.
Don't't use your car as a builder's truck. Heavy sharp objects are likely to damage the interior and the suspension. Hire a van for that.
Don't attempt tricky repairs yourself. You are not an expert, the mechanic is.
Pets and ciggrettes-car buyers don't like them. If your car seats have burn holes in them and the interior smells of a wet dof it will decrese your car value.
Cover your car, it helps keep natural elements away and protects from vandalism.
MAINTANENCE
Simple,
Routine Car maintenance can save you hundreds of rupees. Not only will you get a good price when you sell. Having all the spaces stamped in the service book also sends a positive message to buyers.
Shop around when your car is due for a service. Authorized dealers charge different rates for parts as well as labour-you can save hundreds of rupees.
Consider using a non-authorized garage for servicing only if it has the required equipment. They are cheaper and as long as they stick to service requirements they use manufacturer-apporoved original parts. Get them to give you recipts for parts and also invoice details.
Hand-wash your car. Some of the automated car washes can damage your car's paintwork in the future.
Check your oil and water regularly. Your workshop can't be held responsible if your engine seizes up because of lack of oil.
Get any odd noises checked promptly. You could head off a serious problem and prevent a huge repair bill later.
YOUR CAR AND YOUR DRIVING
Driving sensibly can save you cash. The cost of fuel is rising at an incredible pace and if you adopt driving habits to keep costs down, you will find it will pay in the long run.
Keep your tyres inflated to correct pressures. This will help you in saving a few rupees.
Don't press the pedal when starting your car and try to read the traffic ahead so you don't constantly switch from the brake to the accelerator.
Avoid unnecessary long journeys. It puts more KM on the clock and if you walk it will be good for your health as well.
